I made Rayen as an homage to native culture. I always had an admiration for it. It's hard to go deep into specific tribes from all the way in the Netherlands tho since I haven't been able to find much reliable info. I find painting detailed patterns very meditative, so I sometimes actively put as many patterns in one painting as I can. So I have taken inspitation from native tribes from all over the Americas to come to this girl. And I have taken artistic license to combine indigenous patterns. Rayen is pronounced Rah-YEN and comes from the Mapuche word for flower. I finally finished Rayen while on a painting trip in Tenerife in 2023.
